PVC Foam Board for Furniture: How to Choose the Right Type

PVC foam board is now used for kitchen cabinets, bathroom furniture, wardrobes, shelves and interior panels. For furniture makers, the reasons are quite practical: low moisture absorption, easy machining and different board structures to choose from.

But there is no single PVC foam board for every furniture project.

Same thickness. Different structure. Different use.

Why PVC Foam Board for Furniture?

PVC foam board can be cut, drilled, CNC routed, screwed and laminated. This makes it practical for both furniture factories and cabinet manufacturers.

Common applications include:

Kitchen cabinets · Bathroom cabinets · Wardrobes · Shelves · Storage units · Furniture panels

Moisture resistance is another reason buyers choose it, especially for kitchens and bathrooms.

Still, the application comes first. Then the board.

PVC Free Foam Board, Celuka or Co-Extruded?

This is where selection gets more important.

Free foam board works well when low weight and easy processing matter more than high rigidity.

For furniture, PVC Celuka foam board is often the more practical choice. Its denser outer skin gives the board a harder surface, useful for cabinet and furniture applications.

Co-extruded PVC foam board goes one step further on surface hardness. Good for applications where the visible surface matters. But it may also cost more.

No need to over-specify. A cabinet back panel and a cabinet door don't need the same board.

What About Thickness and Density?

We receive inquiries like this often. But 18mm alone doesn't tell us enough.

For furniture, thickness and density need to be considered together. The load, panel size, hardware and final use all affect the choice.

For example:

For many 18mm furniture applications, 0.55–0.65 g/cm³ can be a useful starting range. Not a fixed rule.

A long shelf carrying weight may need more rigidity than a decorative side panel.

So before asking a PVC foam board manufacturer for the highest density, ask a simpler question:

What does this board actually need to do?

For furniture factories and distributors, price is only one part of purchasing.

A repeat order should behave like the previous one.

Check thickness, density, surface, dimensions, cutting quality and batch consistency when comparing a PVC foam board factory.

And give the supplier some context.

Instead of:

18mm PVC board, quote please.

Better:

18mm PVC foam board for bathroom cabinets, CNC processing, regular container orders.

Much easier to recommend the right specification.
