PVC foam board is often a popular choice for interior wall panelling due to its ease of handling and processing. However, “white, 5 mm” is rarely enough information for a proper specification. A panel bonded to a dry masonry wall has a different set of requirements to a panel fixed across a frame, and will have further implications if it is near a wash area or has a decorative film applied.
Prior to requesting a quotation, describe the finished panel – where will it be installed and what will it be fixed to? Will it be drilled, routed, printed, painted or laminated? These details will inform the choice of materials based on the panel’s required stiffness, surface finish, flatness, or sheet packing requirements.
While the thickness of the sheet will be a determining factor, density, cell structure, surface profile and fixing centres must also be considered. A thinner sheet mounted on a continuous substrate may be more appropriate to a wider panel with few fixing points.
Take the sample through a trial production run to assess its suitability. Place a reference sheet on a flat surface and check the corners and edges of the sample. Test the sample with a run of the proposed film, printing, paint or CNC tooling. This will take more time, but it is less effort than explaining a visible joint or unacceptable glue line to the client.
Retain an approved sample for future reference and include the agreed thickness, density, surface finish and packing instructions in the purchase order. For export orders, inquire about pallet support, face protection, corner protection and labelling requirements. Good materials can be spoiled by incorrect storage or transportation; a reputable supplier will have systems in place for both.
Goldensign has been manufacturing PVC foam board and a variety of plastic sheets since 2004. The company is open about its capabilities, with more than 20 production lines and a presence in over 120 countries and regions, offering OEM/ODM support and services such as CNC cutting, lamination, sanding, edge finishing and engraving. Its product range includes free foam, Celuka, co-extruded, coloured and laminated PVC foam boards.
The most appropriate sheet material will not always be the thickest or cheapest option. It should be suited to the method of installation, pass trial production tests and be available for subsequent orders.
